Fitting
Check the cut-out size, wall or roof thickness and power supply in the specification against your vehicle before you order. Gas appliances must be fitted by a qualified gas engineer, and anything wired into 230V mains should be signed off by a qualified electrician.

Overview
Waeco WAC2200 Roof Air Conditioner
2,200W of cooling from a standard 400 × 400mm roof opening, drawing 4.5A on 230V. The entry point to the Waeco range, sized for panel vans and motorhomes up to 7m and gentle enough on start-up to run on campsites with low fuse protection.
- 2,200W cooling, cooling only
- 4.5A running current, 5A fuse
- Fits a 400 × 400mm roof cut-out, the same opening as a standard rooflight
- Two-way airflow to the front and rear of the cabin
- Remote control for temperature and fan speed
- Filters dust out of the air it moves
Powering it
The WAC2200 is a 230V appliance. At 4.5A it uses roughly 1,000W while the compressor runs, which sits comfortably inside a 10A or 16A campsite supply and leaves headroom on a 6A pitch, where the whole supply is about 1,380W. Off-grid, an hour of cooling takes around 1kWh from your batteries through an inverter, so treat it as a hook-up or generator appliance unless the build has a very large lithium bank. Run your own numbers through the Roam Wired calculator.
What fitting involves
The roof unit weighs 28.5kg and sits over a 400 × 400mm opening, so it can often go in place of an existing rooflight. Inside, the cooled air leaves through a ceiling air distribution box, which Waeco sell separately: choose the package with the flat WAC ADBL box above if you do not already have one. At 54mm deep it keeps headroom in a van. Have the 230V supply installed or checked by a qualified electrician.
WAC2200, WAC2600 or WAC2600i?
The WAC2200 suits vehicles up to 7m and cools only. The WAC2600 adds 400W of cooling for vehicles up to 8m. The WAC2600i uses an inverter compressor and adds a 2,300W heat pump, so it also heats on hook-up.
