For vans you go away in rather than live in.
A weekend build draws 400 to 600Wh a day, because the heater is not running all night and you are not working from the van five days a week. That usually means a smaller and cheaper system than people expect, and everything here is sized against that figure rather than a worst case.
What a weekend actually needs
| Load | Daily draw |
|---|---|
| Compressor fridge, 45 to 50L | 360Wh |
| LED lighting, 6 hours | 60Wh |
| Laptop and two phones | 200Wh |
| Water pump, fan, USB | 60Wh |
The fridge is most of it. If your build has no fridge, a compact unit will carry a long weekend without a second thought. If it does, 1,440Wh is the sensible floor.
Add a panel, stop thinking about it
A 200W foldable panel generates 800 to 1,000Wh on a clear summer day, which is more than the whole daily draw. Paired with a power station that turns a weekend van into something you never plug in between April and September.
