Fitting
Check the cut-out size, wall or roof thickness and power supply in the specification against your vehicle before you order. Gas appliances must be fitted by a qualified gas engineer, and anything wired into 230V mains should be signed off by a qualified electrician.

Overview
Dometic CoolAir RTX 1000 12V Roof Air Conditioner
A self-contained 1,100W rooftop air conditioner that runs from the leisure battery, not hook-up. The 12V version of Dometic's truck parking cooler, built for panel vans, light trucks and special vehicles that stop where there is no mains supply.
- Up to 1,100W cooling on 12V DC
- Inverter compressor slows down to stretch battery runtime and cut noise and vibration
- Four modes: Auto, Eco, Boost or Manual, with five fan speeds
- Battery protection: sensors stop it discharging the battery too far
- Tested to 52°C outside temperatures
- Self-contained: the whole unit sits on the roof
Running it from batteries
Air conditioning is the biggest load a 12V system can carry, so the RTX 1000 belongs in a build with a large lithium bank and serious charging from the alternator and solar. Eco mode and the inverter compressor exist to stretch runtime; Boost pulls temperature down fastest. Size the battery, charging, cable and fuse for your own use in the Roam Wired calculator, or ask us to check your plan.
Fitting
The 23kg unit mounts on the roof over an opening into the cabin, and Dometic offer a universal installation kit to adapt it to different roofs. Heavy DC cable and correct fusing close to the battery are essential at the currents involved. For vans on a 24V system, see the CoolAir RTX 2000.
