How buying this works

Roam Wired does not stock this item. The button above hands you over to the seller's own shop, where you place the order, pay and arrange delivery directly with them. Nothing is added to a Roam Wired basket, and we never see your payment details.

We list it because it is the part our calculator would specify for a build like yours, not because we make the most on it. How we make money

Delivery and returns

Delivery cost, delivery time and the returns window are set by the seller, not by us, and Roam Wired's own £10 / free-over-£250 UK delivery does not apply here. Check their delivery and returns terms on their product page before you order.

Your consumer rights, including the 14-day right to cancel a distance sale, are against the seller who took your order.

Warranty and support

The manufacturer's warranty is handled by the seller you buy from. If something fails, raise it with them and quote their order number — we cannot open a claim on your behalf.

Overview

12V 30A DC-DC On-Board Battery Charger with MPPT

30A of alternator charging and an MPPT solar controller in one box. Two charge sources, one unit, one set of cable runs to the battery — the reason this is the most popular shape of charger in van conversions.

  • 30A maximum output, 400W
  • Dual input, alternator and built-in MPPT solar
  • Euro 6 smart alternators, 12–16V input; traditional 13.2–16V
  • 94% charging efficiency
  • RS485, Bluetooth module available
  • 1.41kg, 244 × 146 × 77mm, −35°C to 65°C

One box instead of two

The alternative is a separate DC-DC charger and a separate solar controller, each with its own pair of heavy cables to the battery and its own fusing. Combining them saves a run, saves a fuse pair, and — more usefully — means one device is arbitrating between the two sources rather than two devices both trying to hold the bus voltage.

Where 30A lands

30A suits a 100–200Ah bank. Below that you are over-specified; much above it and a day's driving stops making a meaningful dent, at which point the 50A is the better buy. Terminals take 8AWG to 4AWG, which is the right range for a typical cab-to-habitation run.

Before you order

Fusing is specified at 75–100A on both input and output — heavier than the 20A unit, so plan the cable accordingly. The wide −35°C to 65°C operating range means it is happy in an unheated locker even if the battery it feeds is not.
